Bandits' Homeruns, Small Ball Takes Down Pride
June 11, 2009 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Chicago Bandits News Release
With Stacy May on second and Kristie Fox on first, Bandits' catcher Rachel Folden blasted a single up the middle, passed the outstretched glove of the second baseman to score May for the RBI single. Two pitches later, first baseman Samantha Findlay singled to score Fox from third base, moving Ashley Carlson (Folden's pinch runner) to second on the play.
Kristina Thorson (3-1) was masterful in the circle, throwing seven innings of one-run ball as the Bandits were victorious, 7-1, over the USSSA Pride (0-2). Thorson allowed eight hits while striking out two batters and walking none.
The fourth was a big inning for the Bandits (6-1) after Folden's single, as right fielder Nicole Trimboli added to the score board with an RBI single when she blasted a hard shot to second base. The ball was misplayed by USSSA Pride second baseman Kristin Schnake, allowing Carlson to score from second base and Findlay to reach second safely.
A nice diving grab by LaDonia Hughes in centerfield earned the second out off the bat of Caitlin Lever; however, Samantha Findlay was able to score from third for the RBI sacrifice fly to put the Bandits up 4-0.
Laura Harms cleared the bases when she dropped a duck-snort single in front of the Pride leftfielder, scoring Trimboli from second base on the play.
The USSSA Pride threatened in the top of the fifth with runners on first and third. But with two outs, Bandits pitcher Kristina Thorson buckled down to get Pride rookie Kristin Schnake to ground out to second base.
With one out and one on in the bottom of the fifth, Bandit's catcher Rachel Folden padded the lead with a two-run home run over the leftfield fence. Two batters later and with Bandits' first baseman Samantha Findlay on first, Schnake snagged a hard liner by Nicole Trimboli, doubling up Findlay at first for the inning ending double play.
In the top of the sixth, Pride short stop Amber Jackson laced a hard liner to the left centerfield fence to put Jessica Williams on third and herself on second. The very next batter, Callie Piper, smacked a sacrifice single to third base, allowing Williams to score from third on the play to bring the score to 7-1. The inning ended with the next batter as she grounded out to first.
After a comeback liner struck Bandits' pitcher Kristina Thorson in the mid-section to put two runners on for the Pride, Thorson settled down to get the final two outs of the game. Pride pitcher Desiree Serrano (0-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up five runs in three innings. Pauly allowed two runs and three hits in three innings of work. Folden finished the game for the Bandits by going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs on the night.
