Traverse City North Stars News Release

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - For the second night in a row, the Traverse City North Stars played the St. Louis Bandits to a virtual draw through 40 minutes on Sunday evening at Summit Ice Arena in Chesterfield. Unfortunately, the Bandits produced another late-game surge to vault past the visitors and scored a 5-2 win over TC in the weekend finale.

On Saturday, the clubs battled to a 2-2 draw through two sessions before a four-goal combustion made it a 6-2 contest.

Sunday's contest took a similar tact, with St. Louis (36-10-3) breaking into the scoring column quickly - exactly 32 seconds into the first period - and again with :26 remaining until the initial intermission. Harrison Niemann and Ben Plocar teamed up for a pair of goals about seven minutes apart to commence the second stanza, putting the North Stars on even footing with the hosts until Jeff Dimmen's marker with 2:59 to play in the second proved to be the clinging effort. A Bandits goal 2:27 into the third and another with 1:34 to go made it a three-goal differential.

Martin Iberer got his first start in net for Traverse City since Jan. 24, stopping 21 of the 26 shots he drew, while Bandits counterpart Shane Madolora made 15 saves in his 17chances.

The North Stars (17-29-5) welcome in the Team USA Under-17s for a three-game weekend set slated for Feb. 23-25. Friday and Saturday games face-off at 7 p.m., while Sunday's matinee gets underway at 1 p.m. The series will be critical in terms of playoff positioning, as Team USA sits just three points behind the North Stars for the fourth and final playoff berth in the NAHL North and has eight games in hand. Marquette, after a weekend split with Bismarck, is five up on Traverse City in the race for the third seed.
