Chicago Bandits News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Chicago Bandits have officially agreed to terms on a one-year contact with pitcher Lacey Waldrop for the 2015 season, per team general manager Aaron M. Moore.
"I can't describe how exciting it is to add a person and player like Lacey Waldrop to the Bandits," said Moore. "We believe that she's going to step in immediately and be a contributor for us in the circle.
"Any time you're adding an All-American player and former player of the year it's an exciting thing and we're looking forward to her arrival. Lacey is going to be a player that Chicago Bandits fans latch on to."
Waldrop, who played collegiately at Florida State University, recently finished a decorated career with the Seminoles in the NCAA Division I Softball Tournament before joining the Bandits. The Chester, Va. native was selected in the first round, third overall by the Bandits in the 2015 National Pro Fastpitch Draft.
Waldrop compiled a record of 109-29 in her career at Florida State and was named the 2014 USA Softball National Player of the Year after her stellar junior campaign, in which she went 38-7 with a 1.13 ERA. She was most recently named the 2015 ACC Pitcher of the Year as well as the 2015 Senior CLASS Award winner for softball, which recognizes student athletes who excel in the classroom as well as their community to make a positive impact.
The Seminoles' ace was also a two-time First-Team All-American selection and tossed seven no-hitters in her career.
"I'm so excited and thankful for the opportunity to continue my softball career with the Bandits," said Waldrop. "The first professional softball game I ever went to as a kid was actually a Bandits game, so it's really neat to see how these experience can come around full circle.
"The Bandits have been at the top of the NPF since the beginning and I can't wait to learn from the players and be a part of this amazing team!"
Florida State was eliminated in the Super Regionals round of the NCAA Tournament by Tennessee, but Waldrop was instrumental in leading the Seminoles to their second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference Championship.
The Bandits will open up the 2015 NPF regular season on the road against the Pennsylvania Rebellion in a three-game set beginning Friday, May 29 at CONSOL Energy Park in Washington, Penn. at 6:05 p.m. CT.
Tickets for all Bandits games during the 2015 season, including the team's opener on June 4 against the Akron Racers, are on sale now and can be purchased at www.chicagobandits.com.
