Baltimore Mariners Sign Towson Star Bradford

BALTIMORE, MD (September 30, 2009)- Brian Bradford, who was named to three first team All-American teams as a senior for Towson University and was an All-State performer at Gaithersburg (Maryland) High School, has agreed to return to the Baltimore Mariners in 2010.

"Brian did an outstanding job at linebacker last season. He is also a very versatile player and has the ability and intellect to play on both sides of the ball. Brian is the type of athlete that you find ways to keep him on the field the entire game," noted Baltimore Mariners Head Coach Chris Simpson.

As a senior at Gaithersburg, Bradford received All-County, All-Metro, and All-State honors and was named the Washington D.C. Area Defensive Player of the Year. In 2000 he was a member of Trojans state championship team and helped lead the squad to regional titles in 2001 and 2002. As a senior he notched 110 tackles and had 35 tackles for a loss.

Bradford also enjoyed a decorated career at Towson. A four-year starter, he finished his career as the third leading tackler in Towson history totaling 328 tackles, including 37 tackles for a loss. He also added eight sacks, five forced fumbles and two interceptions for the Tigers. As a sophomore he earned third team All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) honors, was named second team All-CAA as a junior, and as a senior garnered first team All-CAA team honors and was named All-American by the Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and the Sports Network.

Since his successful college career Bradford has been invited to workouts with the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Redskins. He was also offered contracts by the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League, but did not see playing time with either franchise.

In 2009 Bradford gained his first professional experience with the Mariners. Playing in only five games he produced nine tackles (eight solo/two assisted), 1.5 tackles for a loss, and one interception. Mariners' General Manager Greg Justice commented, "Brian came to us mid season and filled in nicely until his departure for some NFL workouts. Brian was back for the end of the season and our run in the playoffs. With a season of indoor football experience and his ability to play both sides of the ball at linebacker and fullback, this should be a very productive and enjoyable season for both Brian and the Mariner faithful."
