"I am very excited to turn over the broadcasting duties to John and Steve. They are knowledgeable and passionate about everything Mariners football. The Ustream technology will allow a fan friendly interactive experience via the web and most smart phone applications. Now our fans can have Fast, Furious, Fun Mariner action wherever they are while we are on the road," stated Mariners General Manager Greg Justice.
McNelly, a resident of Pasadena, Maryland will be providing play-by-play coverage of the Mariners. Steve graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) in August 2009, with a degree in American Studies with an emphasis in Media and Communications, and joined the Mariners Public Relations staff in September 2009. McNelly currently writes weekly Baltimore Ravens game previews and reviews for www.citythatreeds.com and provides NASCAR coverage for www.chickenfriedracing.com.
Wolfe, also a resident of Pasadena and graduate of UMBC (1987), will be providing color commentary for the 2010 season. John is in his fourth season of indoor football, after working for two seasons as a general manager for other franchises, and as the Mariners' Media Relations Director for the 2009 season. He was named Baltimore's Public Relations Director in July 2009. He has appeared on Comcast Sportsnet, ESPN Radio, and Fox Sports Radio in his previous positions and had been published in The Baltimore Sun, Baseball Digest, and on a number of web sites.
The Mariners also announced their broadcast schedule and platform for the 2010 season. Broadcasts will feature pre-game analysis, game coverage, and a post-game wrap-up show.
"We looked at a variety of broadcast options and with our emphasis on new media technologies to reach our fans such as Facebook.com, Myspace.com, and Twitter.com, we felt that Ustream.tv fit our model. The broadcasts also will include a chat feature to enable fans to interact with the broadcast team and other fans during the games, adding an interactive level to the fans' listening experience," stated Wolfe.
