Baltimore Mariners Earn Playoff Spot

BALTIMORE, MD (June 6, 2009) - Baltimore will have a playoff team this summer. Driven by Running Back Isaiah Grier's best performance of the season, the Baltimore Mariners (7-4) decimated the D.C. Armor 57-28 at the D.C. Armory. The Mariners' win, coupled with the Harrisburg Stampede's (4-8) 36-30 loss to the South Carolina Force (5-6) provided Baltimore a postseason berth in the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) playoffs.

Grier scored on touchdown runs of 21, 4, 16, and 10 and Quarterback E.J. Nemeth connected on three touchdown strikes as the Mariners dissected D.C.'s number one ranked defense for the second week in a row. Last week in a 57-25 win in Baltimore the Mariner's offense scored five touchdowns running the offense's touchdown tally to 12 in just eight quarters of play against the Armor.

Baltimore Defensive Back Armar Watson continued his harassment of AIFA quarterbacks as he boosted his league leading interception total to 14 with two more grabs. Watson also gobbled up a fumble forced by fellow DB Andre Letren. Defensive Back Joe Taylor added a three-yard interception return for a touchdown as Baltimore ran its AIFA best takeaway tally to 37.

The Mariners now turn their attention to the battle for the North Division title. With just three weeks left on their schedule, Baltimore trails the Reading Express (9-3) by 1 ½ games and by only one game in the loss column. The Mariners hold the tie-breaker over Reading after defeating the Express in both their early season match-ups.

The Mariners host Harrisburg this week at 4:00 PM Sunday, June 14th at 1st Mariner Arena, while Reading welcomes the Erie Riverrats (2-9) at the Sovereign Center at 7:00 PM on Saturday, June 13th.
