Baltimore Burn News Release
Glen Burnie, MD - With great sadness, the Baltimore Burn's Head Coach Adrian Mobley's father, Ellis Mobley, Jr., passed away on May 27, 2004. Coach Mobley only recently told his team of his father's battle against cancer, which was diagnosed in January. Ellis Mobley, Jr. is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Mary, and his three sons, Ellis "Trey" III, Adrian and Terrance. "We are all sad to hear of Coach Mobley's father's passing", said Ann Tozzi, #92 and a 4-year veteran on the team. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Coach Mobley and his family."
Ellis Mobley, Jr. served his country as a member of the United Sates Navy and is described by friends and family as a disciplined and honorable man. It is those traits that live on in his family members.
Coach Mobley has coached the Burn with dedication for 3 years. In the beginning, Coach Mobley lived in Virginia and commuted 3 times per week to Baltimore for practices and games. His energy and commitment are ever-present. According to Renée Coley, General Manager and Co-Owner of the Burn, "He lives and breathes the Baltimore Burn. He is an important member of this Baltimore Burn family. It was heartbreaking to hear about his father's illness."
Coach Mobley has been with his family in Chesapeake, VA over the last couple of weeks and has had to miss practices, but has not missed a game. He even came back to Baltimore this past weekend to be with the team on the bus to Roanoke. "He didn't tell any of us that his dad died just 2 days before the game. He said later that he didn't want it to distract us from our game," said Sabrina "Texx" Thomas, #47 and Defensive MVP in 2002. The Baltimore Burn beat the Roanoke Revenge on Saturday, May 29th, 24 - 8. Texx pulled out a 56-yard interception in the 4th quarter to solidify the win, which put a well needed smile on Coach Mobley's face.
Services for Ellis Mobley, Jr. will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk, VA on Saturday, June 5 at noon.
