Team Mexico 1
The Long Beach Armada (4-6) doubled up Team Mexico (4-6) in a nail bitter 2-1 on Wednesday. Both pitchers threw complete games, but Eric Blackwell (1-1) came away victorious over Chase Davenport (1-1). Michael Martin and Joey Friedman both hit triples to propel the Armada to victory. Blackwell pitched seven innings allowing one run on on three hits and struck out eight. Long Beach continues their quest for a .500 record on Friday when they battle the Arizona Roadrunners at 1:30 pm, and Team Mexico looks to bounce back against the San Diego Surf Dawgs at 11:00 am. WP - Blackwell (1-1), LP - Davenport (1-1).
San Diego Surf Dawgs 6
Western Canada Miners 7
The Western Canada Miners (7-3) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the San Diego Surf Dawgs (2-8) in comeback fashion 7-6. Loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, Tomoya Sawada grounded into a double play to tie the game, and Nik Tantardini knocked in an RBI single to win the game. For the Surf Dawgs, Victor Ferrante slammed his first two homeruns of the year (1,2), but it was not enough. The Miners remain one game back in the International Division in the Arizona Winter League. WP - Jared Simon (4-0) LP - Joshua Hildebrand (1-2) HR - Ferrante (1,2).
Blythe Heat 4
Arizona Roadrunners 5
The Arizona Roadrunners (3-7) won in walk off fashion off the Blythe Heat (5-5) in the bottom of the seventh inning 5-4. Kenji Sakaguchi lead off the bottom of the seventh with a single and after the bases were loaded, Eddie Martinez hit in a sacrifice fly to the end the game. Sakaguchi also hit his first homer of the year (1) and knocked his fourth RBI to contribute to a victory over Blythe. Daiki Matsui (1-1) got his first victory of the year pitching just one third of an inning, while Robert Delinois (1-2) pitched the whole game for the Heat and lost his second game of the year. WP - Matsui (1-1), LP - Delinois (1-2). HR - Kenji Sakaguchi (1)
Team Canada 8
Sonora Pilots 3
Team Canada (6-4) extended its winning streak to three games after defeating the Sonora Pilots (5-5) 8-3 on Wednesday. Louis Templeton hit his first homer of the year (1), and Aaron Dunsmore batted 3-4 to lift Canada over the Pilots. Will Russell (1-1) picked up his first victory of the year, getting the start and going five innings surrendering three runs on six hits and striking out five. WP - Russell (1-1), LP - Jake Winters (1-2), HR - Louis Templeton (1).
Saskatchewan SilverSox 8
Yuma Scorpions 6
The Saskatchewan SilverSox (8-2) won a battle of first place teams as the International Division leader prevailed over the American Division leaders, Yuma Scorpions (6-4) 8-6. Trailing 5-1 heading into the fifth inning, the SilverSox offense surged scoring six runs in the top of the fifth. JJ Muse knocked in three RBIs on the game, to extend his total to 10 so far in the Arizona Winter League. Justin Mazur (2-1) started off rocky, but finished strong pitching four innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and striking out six Scorpions. WP - Mazur (2-1), S - Jonathan Lewis (1). HR - Jason Zudell (1)
