Team Canada 0
The Yuma Scorpions (2-3) shut out Team Canada (2-3) in a pitcher's duel that came down to the wire until the final inning. After being scoreless through the sixth, the Scorpions scored the lone run in the top of the seventh to top Canada 1-0. Mark Moriarty led off the inning with a triple and after Kohei Katsuno reaches on a fielders choice he steals 2nd and on the throw Moriarty comes home for the go ahead run. Trent Fuller (2-0) picked up his second win of the year pitching a complete game shutout giving up just four hits and striking out eight batters. The Yuma Scorpions take on Team Mexico on Friday at 11 am for their next game, while Team Canada battles Saskatchewan at 1:30 pm on Friday. WP - Fuller (2-0), LP - Denver Straub (0-1).
San Diego Surf Dawgs 4
Arizona Roadrunners 7
The Arizona Roadrunners (2-3) picked up the victory over last place San Diego Surf Dawgs (1-4) to give San Diego their second two-game losing streak of the early season. Tied at 3-3 through the top of the fourth inning, the Roadrunners scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take an insurmountable lead over San Diego. Jacob Flores and Kyle Viratos both contributed with two RBIs each in the game. Jordan Kendall (2-0) pitched four innings giving up three runs (two earned) while striking out three to pick up his second win of the year. The San Diego Surf Dawgs try to snap their winning streak Friday when they take on the Long Beach Armada at 1:30 pm. WP - Kendall (2-0), LP - Joe Snider (0-2).
Western Canada Miners 3
Team Mexico 1
The Western Canada Miners (3-2) increased their record to over .500 after defeating Team Mexico (2-3) in the afternoon game at Desert Sun Stadium 3-1. Sean Boatright led off the game for the Miners with a triple off the left field wall in the first inning. He was cashed in by an RBI single by Gabe Demarco, who had two RBIs on the day including an RBI double in the fifth inning to give the Miners the lead. Both pitchers threw complete games, but Jared Simon (2-0) got the better of Stephen Whalen (0-1) as Simon gave up 10 hits but only one run and struck out six batters. The Miners battle Blythe on Friday at 11 am, while Mexico clashes with Yuma at 11 am as well. WP - Simon (2-0), LP - Whalen (0-1)
Blythe Heat 7
Sonora Pilots 4
The Blythe Heat (4-1) took a two-game lead in the American Division in the Arizona Winter League after defeating the Sonora Pilots (3-2) 7-4 on Wednesday. Trailing 4-3 in the top of the sixth, the Heat got two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to complete the comeback victory. Shane Beath and Michael Derr continue their hot hitting both picking up RBIs in the game, as they are the league leaders in RBIs in the AWL with 8 and 7, respectively. Quinn Bright (2-0) pitched a complete game giving up seven hits and four runs (three earned) and striking out four Pilots. Blythe encounters Western Canada Friday at 11 am, while the Pilots confront Arizona at 1:30 pm.
Long Beach Armada 5
Saskatchewan SilverSox 8
The Saskatchewan SilverSox (4-1) regained the division lead in the International Division after defeating the Long Beach Armada (2-3) 8-5. After being defeated for the first time yesterday, the SilverSox struck back with RBIs from Victor Valdez, Jonathan Lewis, Tim Kimbarov and two-RBIs from Fernando Escarra. Chris Krepline (2-0) continued his hot pitching going six innings giving up three runs (one earned) off six hits to lower his ERA 0.82. Long Beach challenges the Surf Dawgs on Friday at 1:30 pm, while the SilverSox return to Desert Sun Stadium taking on Team Canada at 1:30 as well.
