Salem, VA - The Salem Avalanche, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, surged past Potomac Friday night for a 4-3 win on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. The Avs smacked six hits in the decisive fifth inning to seal the win.

Trailing 1-0, Salem got a leadoff double from designated hitter Mark Ori. After Jordan Parraz grounded out and Ryan Reed struck out, Koby Clemens' infield single scored Ori and evened the game at one. Next, Jhon Florentino drilled a triple off of Jhonny Nunez to score Clemens and give the Avs the lead. Immediately following, Wladimir Sutil doubled Florentino home for a 3-1 edge. Two batters later, Tim Torres scorched a single down the right side for the final run of the frame. All told, Salem scored four runs on six hits in the inning.

The Avalanche bullpen tandem of Erick Abreu and Jason Dominguez allowed just one run in three innings to secure the win for lefty Polin Trinidad. The native of the Dominican ceded just two runs on four hits in six innings for the victory, his third in Advanced-A.

In the game, the pitching staffs did not walk a batter and did not allow a home run. Salem's Mark Ori went two-for-four in the game.

The two teams reconvene for a 6:07 PM first pitch Saturday night. Righty Casey Hudspeth for Salem throws against Potomac southpaw Corey VanAllen.
