Brooklyn Aviators News Release

The Week That Was: The Brooklyn Aviators went 2-0-0-0 this past week against the Cape Cod Bluefins and skated into the Holiday break with a FHL record of 10-7-4-0.

The Aviators defeated Cape Cod, 6-3, on Thursday night, cashing in on three power play goals in the game to help fuel their offense in the win.

Brooklyn went into the second intermission with a slim 3-2 lead - with goals coming from newcomers Peter Drikos, and Brendan Baumgartner and rookie Jordan Bernier - but Cape Cod got a late marker in the second to cut the deficit to one. The Aviators, though, had a strong third period, as Ken Trentowski, Matt Atsoff and Jesse Felten all tallied for Brooklyn in the frame, which helped the Aviators cruise to their third victory over the Bluefins. Brooklyn goalie Jo St. Pierre stopped 31 shots en route to his fifth win as an Aviator.

On Friday night, the Aviators found themselves on the short side of a 5-3 score early in the second period. Brooklyn led 3-2 after the first period, but Cape Cod erupted with three goals in the first 2:56 of the second frame to take a two-goal edge. Realizing that the game was slipping away, Head Coach Rob Miller called a timeout and replaced St. Pierre with backup goalie Pete Dundovich. The move paid off as Brooklyn scored the game's final two goals in regulation, from Lucas Schott and Baumgartner, taking the game into overtime. Andrew Owsiak played hero after his goal just 39-secodn into the extra session gave the A's the 6-5 overtime win.

Where They Stand : Brooklyn currently is on a three-game winning streak, and their record of 10-7-4-0 puts them in 3rd place in the FHL standings. The Aviators are also tied with the Danbury Whalers with 36 points, but have a better winning percentage (.545).

What's Up Next ?: The Aviators come back after the Holiday break to take on the first-place New Jersey Outlaws in a two-game set down in Wayne, NJ at the Capital One Ice Vault. Both games are at 7:35 PM. Brooklyn closes out the 2011 year with a 5:00 PM matchup at home against the Bluefins on Saturday.
