December 28, 2011 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) News Release
The New Jersey Outlaws resumed their winning ways yet again tonight at the Capital One Ice Vault with a hard fought 6-3 victory over the visiting Bluefins. The Outlaws began their 4 game, 4 night homestand with a contest that was decided in the final 7:02 of the game. Through the first period, the Outlaws battled to a 2-1 lead with goals coming from Kevin Cooper (Travis Kauffeldt, Matt Puntureri) and Puntureri (Nathan Oke, Lawne Snyder). The Bluefins got on the board with an Andrew Hutton goal with a mad scramble in front of Adam Dekker. In the second, the teams scored one a piece. Cooper scored his second of the game to extend the lead to 3-1, but Billy Tibbets scored on the Power Play to bring it to 3-2 before the end of the second.
In the third, the two teams played tough as Cape Cod tied it on a Brad Surdam goal just 38 seconds into the period. The teams engaged in a stalemate for the next 12 minutes until Matt Miller (Snyder, Cooper) found the back of the net and scored another just 39 seconds later (Oke, Battaglia). The Outlaws added their 6th goal from Jason Reese (Cooper, Oke). The game ended with some fireworks as Jamie Zaleski and James Gordon dropped the gloves and Kauffeldt and Tibbets also received roughing minors from the altercation.
The Outlaws are right back in action tomorrow night as they host the Brooklyn Aviators at 7:35pm on 80's night as Decades Week continues. Tickets are available by calling (973) 886-9335 or going to www.newjerseyoutlaws.com.
Privateers Double Tap Doubleheader
The second game of a two night home stand against the Akwasasne Warriors ended in victory for the 1000 Islands Privateers. The crowd of 1234 saw a resounding win that capped the river rivalry with a score of 8-3. 1000 Islands maintains pace with league leaders New Jersey in a solid second place.
The 1st period was all Privateers as Captain Jeff Winchester got things going with the opening score at 4:31 (Michael Byrd, Brad Smulders). Byrd got the first of three netters on the night at 7:47 (Chad Bezin, Michael Richard), and then notched #2 at 11:10 (Smulders, Richard). Byrd then returned the favor feeding Richard for the 4-0 goal at 14:02.
Smulders got a powerplay goal (Winchester, Justin Levac) at 1:14 into the 2nd to continue the Privateers onslaught, bringing the tally to 5-0. At 7:42, Pierre Dagenais got the Warriors on the board (Sylvain Deschatelets) to null the shutout. Privateer Smulders answered for his second of the night at 10:06 to maintain the 5 goal lead. Less than a minute later at 10:53, Byrd completed his hat trick with help from Smulders and Richard which brought the total to 7-1.
Akwasasne started to return fire in the 3rd as Martin Beaulne tapped at 4:28 (Patrick Bilodeau, Ahmed Mahfouz). Mahfouz got his own netter at 17:14 to lessen the damage (Beaulne, Addison Pelkey), but the Privateers ship was not to be sunk. Adam McAllister drove the nail home at 19:46 in a powerplay goal, with help from Byrd, and the Fat Lady started into her song.
The Privateers close out 2011 with a road trip seeing them stop at Cape Cod on Friday, and then a New Years Eve game and their first visit to league leading New Jersey.
