Brooklyn Aviators News Release
The Week that Was: The Brooklyn Aviators went 1-1-0 in their only two games last week to improve their Federal Hockey League record to 2-1-2.
On Friday night, the Aviators erupted for a franchise best eight goals to defeat the Danbury Whalers, 8-1, at the Danbury Ice Arena. Recently signed forward Vladimir Nikiforov made quite the splash in his debut for Brooklyn, scoring two goals and collecting three assists for five points. Brooklyn also found scoring from Jordan Bernier and Chris Ferazzoli, who both had a pair of goals in the game, and rookies Ken Trentowski and Chris Jones. Aviators goalie Tommy Lee made 29 saves in the club's victory over Danbury to earn his second win of the season.
On Saturday night, the Cape Cod Bluefins came into the Aviator Sports and Events center for the first time this season, and skated away with another overtime win, 5-4. Back on Oct. 28, these two squads met for the first time at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center in Hyannis, Mass., and the Bluefins took that game on home ice, in overtime, 3-2. Nikiforov netted a hat trick for Brooklyn - including two shorthanded goals - on Saturday, however it was not enough, as Dan Gordon scored the game winner in the extra session for Cape Cod at the 2:22 mark to push the Bluefins over Brooklyn, 5-4.
The Week Ahead: The Aviators have a full slate of games this week, starting on Thursday at 7:35 pm against the expansion Vermont Wild, who come into the Aviator Sports and Events Center for the first time. The Wild are 0-4-0 on the young season, dropping two contests to both 1000 Islands and Akwesasne.
Brooklyn then hits the road for their only game away from home this week on Friday, with another stop in Cape Cod to take on the Bluefins at 7:05 pm at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center. Cape Cod has two overtime wins against the Aviators in the only two games played this season.
The Aviators close out the week with a home tilt versus rival Danbury at 7:05 pm. Brooklyn defeated the Whalers last Friday, up in Danbury, by a score of 8-1.
Where They Stand: With their 2-1-2 record, Brooklyn sits in fourth place in the FHL standings, behind 1000 Islands, Akwesasne and New Jersey, who claim the one, two and three spots in that order, respectively.
Upcoming Promo: 2011-12 Team Photo, sponsored by Bennett Printing, Saturday 11/12 vs. Danbury: The Brooklyn Aviators will be giving out a 2011-12 team photo to the first 500 fans in attendance on Saturday night.
