Aviators Sweep Doubleheader
June 28, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release
The first game was a decisive win for Lafayette. Milo Beam got the scoring started early with a no-out RBI single in the 2nd, which ignited the team to a four-run inning. They followed that up with two runs in the 3rd, and another in the 5th to give them a seven-run cushion heading into the final two innings.
Joe Graziano threw an impressive first five innings, yielding just four hits and keeping Kokomo off the scoreboard.
The Jackrabbits would get on the board via sacrifice fly in the top of the 6th, ending Lafayette's shutout bid. Still, they would not be able to string together enough offense to overcome the gap.
The second game was kinder to Kokomo, who established a two-run lead out of the gate. That lead would briefly grow to three runs in the 3rd inning before Lafayette scored their first run of the matchup on a Matthew Patton sac fly.
In the bottom of the 5th two more Lafayette runs would come in, tying the game at 3.
It seemed like the game was headed for extra innings as the tie remained into the bottom of the 7th inning. That's when Kam Smith stepped up to the plate and rocked one over the wall for a walk-off homer to cap the day off.
The two teams will play once more on Friday, this time in Kokomo. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
