Aviators score run in ninth to win

May 11, 2005 - Central Baseball League (Central League) - Coastal Bend Aviators News Release

ROBSTOWN, TEXAS – The Coastal Bend Aviators (3-2) scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the San Angelo Colts (4-2) 4-3.

With nobody out and bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Edwin Maldonado hit a slow grounder back to the Colts pitcher, Joldy Watts. Watts threw it home to get one out, then catcher Aaron Mendoza threw it wildly in to left field trying to turn a double play. Stephen Morales scored on the error.

James Lira (1-0) picked up the win for the Aviators pitching two innings of scoreless relief.

Joldy Watts (1-1) took the loss for the Colts as he allowed the winning run the score in the bottom of the ninth.

The series wraps up Thursday night at 7:05. Thirsty Thursday get a cold beer or soda for only one dollar. Also there will be an Elvis look alike contest. Tickets are available through the Aviator’s Website, or call (361)-387-8585.
