Aviators' rally falls short

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Fort Worth Cats ended the Coastal Bend Aviators rally and won 7-6 Tuesday night. The win gave the Cats a 2-0 lead in the series.

In the third inning Fort Worth got on the board first. J.J. Trujillo walked Bryon Smith with the bases loaded making the score 1-0. John Allen then broke the game wide open on a grand slam to left field making the score 5-0 after three innings.

The Aviators got on the board on three straight extra-base hits in the fourth. Jack Joffrion led off with a double. Edwin Maldonado then tripled driving Joffrion home. Stephen Morales followed with a double scoring Maldonado.

Down 5-2 in the fifth inning, Mike Guerrero hit a two-run homer to make the score 5-4.

Fort Worth added two insurance runs in the seventh inning when Smith hit a two-run double making the score 7-4.

The Aviators rallied in the eighth and ninth inning but were unable to tie the game. In the eighth Morales hit a sacrifice fly making the score 7-5. In the ninth Carlos Figueroa had a RBI single making the score 7-6. Fort Worth second baseman Shawn Yarbrough robbed Guerrero of a hit with two outs in the ninth inning to end the game.

Aaron Parker (1-0) picked up the win in relief. Mike Snapp had his fourth save of the year. J.J. Trujillo (1-1) took the loss for the Aviators.

The Aviators wrap the three-games series at Fort Worth tomorrow at 12:05. The Aviators will be back home on Friday, May 20th to take on Shreveport in a three-game series.
