Aviators pick up second straight vs. Jackson
Coastal Bend put together their second pair of wins on the road with a 3-0 shutout against the Jackson Senators on Thursday night at Smith-Wills Stadium.
The Aviators received a stellar performance on the mound from Player of the Game, J.J. Trujillo. The former Major League pitcher had his slider working in the two hit shutout. Jackson fans remained in their seats all night excluding visits to the concession and/or facilities, while Trujillo sat down the Senators on the field. While recording his second win on the season, his 3.39 ERA will continue to plummet after tonight's performance.
Table-setter Chris Judkins fulfilled his role by reaching base twice with a bunt single to catch Jackson napping in the top of the first. Judkins later drew a walk to begin the eighth inning as well. Both case scenarios yielded runs as hitters 2 through 4 brought Judkins around to the plate.
The ability to manufacture runs could cause concern for the rest of the Central Baseball League. Coastal Bend has proven their ability to smash, now if small ball can be added to their arsenal, the Aviators can gear up for a serious second half run. With the playoffs on everyone's mind, don't be surprised to see more of the same in close pitching duals.
The league leader in strikeouts, J.J. Trujillo increased his total to 88 Ks with 10 more against Jackson. Truly this night belonged to the crafty right hander.
