Aviators open exhibition play with win

ROBSTOWN, TEXAS – The Coastal Bend Aviators opened up exhibition play with a 16-3 win over Mira’s Sports and More Sluggers.

The Aviators scored five runs in the second inning to blow the game open. Carlos Figueroa had the only hit of the inning, singling up the middle, scoring a run to make the score 6-0.

Edwin Maldonado scored on an in-the-park homerun leading off the bottom of the third and the Aviators led 7-0.

Dan Henderson started the game and got the win for the Aviators. Henderson pitched four scoreless innings, struck out four, and gave up no hits.

Gilbert Ray Sanchez took the loss for Mira’s pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up six runs.

The Aviators begin the regular season 7:05 on Thursday at Fairgrounds Field against Edinburg. Opening night fireworks, Thirsty Thursday, featuring $1 beer and soft drinks, magnetic schedule giveaway, and performances from the Krazy Characters entertainment act are scheduled for Thursday.
