June 22, 2004 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Edmonton Aviators News Release
Edmonton, June 21 â The Edmonton Aviators Men's team lost to the Vancouver Whitecaps Men's team 1 - 0 today in front of a boisterous crowd at Clarke Park in Edmonton.
Vancouver controlled the early parts of the game attacking the Edmonton goal with vigour, but Edmonton held their defensive composure long enough to settle the Vancouver attack and muster some of their own chances.
The first great chance of the game came in the 35th minute as Oliver Heald rang a penalty shot off the top bar.
Both teams were reduced to ten men as Edmonton's Chris Devlin received his second yellow card, and thus a red card, in the 57th minute, and Vancouver's Jason Jordan was sent off in the 60th minute.
The game went back and forth until Vancouver's David Xuasa fired a hard shot past Edmonton goalkeeper for a 1 â 0 lead.
Edmonton's best chance came late in the game as Claudio Salinas' shot was stopped by Vancouver's goalkeeper, Alex Marques. The save proved important as Vancouver held on for the 1 â 0 win.
The Aviators Men's next game will be June 25th in Calgary (7pm MST) as they take on the Mustangs.
