Lafayette Aviators News Release
Danville, IL - The Lafayette Aviators (14-9) fell to the Danville Dans (16-5) by a score of 8-2 on Wednesday night in Danville. The Aviators fell to three games back of Danville in the Eastern Division.
Lafayette scored first, and the run was manufactured by none other than Chris Monroe (Illinois Springfield). With runners on second and third, Monroe flew a ball to the outfield to score Blake Schmitt (Purdue). Monroe entered Wednesday as fourth in the Prospect League in RBI with 21.
Aviators starting hurler Brendan Anderson (Illinois Springfield) gave up a two-run homer in the first inning but clamped down on the Dans through the remaining two innings of his start.
In the fifth, Aidan Maim hit a homerun to put Danville ahead 3-1. Later in the sixth, the Dans scratched across two runs off of three hits to take a 6-1 lead. The following inning, Danville grabbed a 8-1 lead when Max Jung Goldberg singled to bring in two runs.
Andrew Eng (Binghamton) singled in the top of the ninth to score Mason Sykes (Wabash Valley), but it was too little too late.
The Aviators take on the Normal Cornbelters next on Thirsty Thursday at 7:05 PM ET.
