Paints Crush Kings 23-4 Tuesday in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, got right back into the win column Tuesday night with a 23-4 victory over the Champion City Kings at Carleton Davidson Stadium.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second inning, Gavin Homer hit a grand slam to mark his fourth straight game with a home run, followed by a solo home run by Cole Andrews, capping a seven-run inning and giving the Paints a 7-1 lead.

The Paints (14-8) scored six more runs in the top of the fourth inning on several walks, hit batters, a three-run double by Collin Luty, an RBI fielder's choice by Cody Orr and an RBI single by Chris Eisel, giving the Paints a 13-1 lead.

Andrews singled home Orr in the sixth inning, making it 14-2.

The first two Paints hitters were retired to start the seventh, then the Paints scored seven runs on singles from Ethan Hajdukovic and Justin McIntyre, an RBI double by Orr, a walk by Charlie Patrick, an RBI walk by Colin Shepherd, an RBI walk by Andrews, an RBI by Trey Smith, an RBI hit-by-pitch by Andrew Bacon and a two-run single by Collin Luty, making it 21-2 Chillicothe.

Shepherd drove home another on a groundout in the eighth and Andrews collected his fourth RBI of the night with a single, extending the Paints' lead to 23-2.

Champion City (11-9) added two in the bottom of the eighth to cap the scoring at 23-4.

Chillicothe took full advantage of 17 walks, seven hit batters and four wild pitches by Champion City pitchers.

Zach Kendall (2-0), on his 23rd birthday, earned the win after allowing two runs on six hits, walking two and striking out four over 5 2/3 innings. Michael Hubert was credited with his first save of the season, he allowed two runs on three hits, walking one and striking out three over 3 1/3 innings.

The Paints play the Kings in Springfield again Wednesday and then return home to VA Memorial Stadium to face the Kings in a doubleheader at 6:05 p.m. on Thirsty Thursday and Homeland Credit Union Night. One admission for Thursday is good for both games.
