Aviators fail to Finish at Danville

June 19, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release

The Aviators struggled during their 1-game road trip to Danville, Illinois. The first three innings were scoreless with a Jack Thelen sacrifice fly scoring Jordy Libman to break the tie in the 4th.

The lead would not last long as the Aviators would concede four runs in the bottom of the inning on only one hit. Pitching would struggle throughout the inning giving up 2 of the runs on wild pitches and another being walked home.

The Aviators would not recover for the rest of the game trailing by at least three for the remainder.

The only glimmer of hope that would come for the rest of the game came in the top of the 9th. Entering the inning trailing by 6 runs the Aviators managed to quickly load the bases and got 2 RBI walks to pull within 4 runs. Anthony Sanchez would come to the plate with 2 outs and the bases loaded and send a fly ball deep into right that looked like it was going to tie the ball game but was caught at the wall for the final out of the game.

This moved the Danville Dans into first place in the West Division with a record of 11-6. The Aviators fall to 5-12 as they prepare for a 4-day 5-game home stand starting tomorrow. Tomorrow will also be Bark in the Park against the Terre Haute Rex with the first pitch at 6:30.
