Los Angeles Avengers News Release
LOS ANGELES -- In preparation for their eighth season of play in the Arena Football League, the Los Angeles Avengers will open training camp on Monday, Feb. 5.
For the first time in team history, the Avenger training camp will be held at an out-of-town location. Due to a marketing partnership with the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians and the Soboba Casino, the Avengers will hold their three-week training camp at Oak Stadium on the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indian Reservation.
"Having a first-class franchise like the Avengers here for their training camp is very exciting for us," Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians Tribal Chairman Robert Salgado said. "Our partnership with the Avengers continues to grow and has many reciprocal benefits."
The training camp will include two road trips for scrimmages. The Avengers will go to Phoenix to face the Arizona Rattlers on Thursday, Feb. 15, and also travel to Dallas to scrimmage against the Desperados on Friday, Feb. 23.
"We believe that moving our training camp out of Los Angeles will increase our ability to focus and prepare for the upcoming season," said Avenger head coach Ed Hodgkiss, who has led the Avengers to the playoffs in four of his previous five years at the helm. "In addition, the facilities on the reservation are top-notch and we are really looking forward to the three weeks that we will be spending out there."
Training camp at Oak Stadium on the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indian Reservation will be preceded by a three-day mini-camp, beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 30. All mini-camp sessions will be held at the Avenger Training Facility at West Los Angeles College in Culver City.
"It's been a long offseason and we can't wait to get back on the field for mini-camp," Hodgkiss said. "With the change in the substitution rules, we've added a lot of new players to our roster. There's going to be a lot of talent out there and it'll be very competitive."
The AFL's 21st season kicks off on Sunday, March 4, when the Avengers host the San Jose SaberCats at STAPLES Center. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Nine-game Avenger season ticket packages are on sale now at 1-888-AVENGERS or www.laavengers.com.
Single-game tickets, which range in price from $10 to $69.50, are also on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com and the STAPLES Center box office.
