Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- In preparation for their ninth season of play in the Arena Football League, the Los Angeles Avengers will conduct a three-day mini-camp, beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

For three consecutive days (Jan. 29, 30, 31), the Avengers will practice twice daily at the Avenger Training Facility at West Los Angeles College in Culver City. The first practice session on each day will run from 8:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. The second will go from 11:15 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.

"We've been very busy in the offseason and can't wait to get back on the field for mini-camp," Avenger head coach Ed Hodgkiss said. "After working hard to retain the core of our team, we added a lot of new players to our roster who we think can really help us take it to the next level. We've got a lot of talent on this team. It's going to be very competitive."

After mini-camp and a short break, the Avengers will open training camp on Monday, Feb. 4.

For the second consecutive year, the entire three-week Avenger training camp will be held at Oaks Stadium on the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indian Reservation.

"We really benefited from moving our training camp out of Los Angeles last season because it increases our ability to focus and prepare," Hodgkiss said. "Last year's camp really set the tone for the improvement we experience last season. In addition, the facilities on the reservation are top-notch and we couldn't really ask for a better situation."

Training camp will include two road trips for scrimmages. The Avengers will go to Phoenix to face the Arizona Rattlers on Tuesday, Feb. 12, and also travel to Salt Lake City to scrimmage against the Utah Blaze on Thursday, Feb. 21.

The AFL's 22nd season kicks off on Friday, Feb. 29, when the Avengers host the New Orleans VooDoo at STAPLES Center. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

This past season, the Avengers finished second in the Arena Football League's Western Division, compiling a 9-7 regular-season record before defeating the Utah Blaze, 64-42, at STAPLES Center to register the franchise's first postseason victory.

Avenger 2008 season tickets, which include nine games played at STAPLES Center, are on sale now at 1-888-AVENGERS or www.laavengers.com.
