January 24, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
GRAND RAPIDS - With training camp just 10 days away, the Grand Rapids Rampage continued to add the final pieces to their roster with the signing of receiver Cole Magner (Palmer, Alaska) and quarterback Ryan Hart (Coral Springs, Fla.). The two college football standouts spent last season acclimating to Arena Football, as Magner played for the Arena Football League's Columbus Destroyers while Hart quarterbacked the arenafootball2's Albany Conquest.
Magner spent the majority of 2007 on the Destroyers' practice squad, finally getting his chance to shine at the end of the season. In his lone regular-season game, Magner caught a pair of touchdown passes, earning him a spot on the team's active roster for the playoffs. The Destroyers called on Magner during their run to ArenaBowl XXI, as the 6-2, 196-pound receiver ranked second on the team in receptions and receiving yards in both the National Conference Championship and ArenaBowl games.
A Bowling Green University standout, Magner left the Falcons as the team's all-time receptions leader with 215 catches from 2001-04. He finished his collegiate career sixth in team history with 2,385 receiving yards, fifth with 18 touchdown receptions and 10th with 3,246 all-purpose yards. As a junior, Magner set a school single-season record with 99 receptions for 1,138 yards and 10 scores. Following his senior season, he signed as a free agent with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons, and was briefly a practice squad member with the NFL's Baltimore Ravens in 2005.
Hart served as the starting quarterback for all 16 Conquest games in 2007, leading the af2 with 374 completions and ranking fourth in the league with a 65.3 completion percentage. The 6-2, 220-pound signal caller made his name as a four-year (2002-05) starter at Rutgers University, setting several Big East Conference records including single-season completions (295) and completion percentage (65.1) in 2004 and career 300-yard passing games (10). Hart also helped lead Rutgers to the Insight Bowl in 2005, the school's first bowl appearance in 27 years.
The Rampage also waived linebacker Johnnie Balous (Carthage, Texas) and released receiver Ronney Daniels (Lake Wales, Fla.) to make room for the new additions. Training camp will start on Feb. 3, when new head coach and director of football operations Steve Thonn and the rest of his coaching staff will begin molding their team for the upcoming 2008 AFL season.
