Los Angeles Avengers News Release
LOS ANGELES -- Before Avenger fans took their seats at STAPLES Center to watch their team play against the Georgia Force on Saturday night, they donated blood to the Los Angeles American Red Cross.
The American Red Cross collected 92 pints at the Third Annual Los Angeles Avengers Blood Drive. The units collected will help save lives in Southern California.
"Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood and Avenger fans know how important it is to lend a hand," Avenger vice president of communications John Tamanaha said. "Our team is very proud to have hosted this event with the American Red Cross and we look forward to doing it again every year."
Avenger fans donated blood throughout the day inside STAPLES Center. Each person that donated blood was given a commemorative T-shirt, two tickets to an upcoming Avenger game and a coupon for a Chipotle burrito.
"Most people in good health aged 17 and over and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate," Donor Recruitment Director for the American Red Cross Blood Services Southern California Region Clifford Numark said. "Unfortunately, few people realize the grave need or the constant need for donations to ensure an adequate blood supply. The Red Cross thanks the Los Angeles Avengers for helping too ensure that enough blood will be available for the hundreds of patients in our communities who need blood and blood products to survive accidents, heart transplants, sickle cell anemia treatments and other ailments. Our blood supply levels will only be sustainable with help from partners like the Avengers and continued donor response from our communities."
