Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada-After losing guard Terrance Green to a knee injury in the first quarter and trailing 52-41 at the break, the Vermont Frost Heaves rallied to double the output of their hosts in the second half and score a 104-83 victory over the Halifax Rainmen at the Metro Centre on Friday night.
Markus Austin paced the Frost Heaves with 29 points, including 18 of 22 from the foul line, while Antonio Burks added 16 points, Brett Gravitt 14 and Dwayne Lee 10. Erik Nelson chipped in with 11 rebounds for the Frost Heaves, who are now 27-4.
Halifax closed to within 79-76 midway through the fourth quarter, but from there the visitors scored 25 of the game's final 32 points.
Vermont, the No. 1 team in the ABA Power Rankings, visits Montreal on Sunday afternoon for a 4:15 p.m. tip at the Pierre Charbonneau Centre.
Blandan Ferguson scored 25 points for the Rainmen (8-19).
The Frost Heaves return to the Green Mountain State next week for three games in Burlington's Memorial Auditorium: A school-vacation special on Thursday, Feb. 28, against Montreal; a matinee on Saturday, March 1, that will celebrate both Aubuchon Hardware's 100th Aniversary and the 2004 University of Vermont NCAA tournament upset of Syracuse; and Fan Appreciation Day vs. Quebec on Sunday, March 2, when the Frost Heaves will thank their supporters with a special giveaway.
