Austin Aztex News Release
AUSTIN, Texas (November 18, 2014) - The Austin Aztex are proud to announce that Austin-area soccer players Andres Cuero and Travis Golden have signed with the squad for the 2015 USL PRO season. Joining Cuero and Golden on the 2015 roster are Drew Yates and Lance Rozeboom, who both share success on the USL PRO level.
"We have a recognizable way of playing at the Austin Aztex that needs a specific type of player profile to enable the system to work efficiently and effectively," Aztex Head Coach Paul Dalglish said. "As we look to build our roster we have been targeting these specific player profiles."
Andres Cuero, a 25-year-old midfielder, played for the Austin Aztex PDL squad from 2013 to 2014 and scored nine goals with two assists in 20 games. Cuero, a graduate from Austin's Westlake High School, has prior experience in USL PRO when he played for the Wilmington Hammerheads from 2011 to 2012, amassing four goals and an assist in 34 appearances.
Travis Golden, a 22-year-old defender, played for the Austin Aztex PDL squad in 2012 and 2014, helping the Aztex defense place themselves among the PDL elite in fewest goals allowed. Golden graduated from Bowie High School and was drafted 69th overall in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by D.C. United after finishing his collegiate years at Campbell University.
"We are Austin's team and it is important that we provide a pathway for local players to play at the professional level if they have the ability and mentality required to do so," Dalglish said. "It gives me great pleasure to sign players with these attributes in Andres and Travis."
Drew Yates, a 26-year-old midfielder, joins the Aztex after a successful two year stint with USL PRO's Charlotte Eagles. Yates finished the season tied for second in the league with eight assists. Yates also previously played for the Harrisburg City Islanders and FC Tampa Bay after a successful collegiate career at Maryland, where he helped the Terrapins win the 2008 National Championship. Yates is originally from Severna Park, MD.
Lance Rozeboom, a 25-year-old holding midfielder, joins the Aztex after spending the two previous years with USL PRO's Rochester Rhinos. Rozeboom played in more than 50 matches and logged more than 3,300 minutes for the Rhinos across the two seasons. Collegiately, Rozeboom was a key member of New Mexico's undefeated 2011 squad and was drafted by D.C. United in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. Rozeboom is originally from Walker, IA and played three seasons with USL PDL's Des Moines Menace.
"Drew and Lance are seasoned players in this league and their experience will be invaluable for us in the upcoming season," Dalglish said. "Both players possess the technical and mental attributes required to be an Austin Aztex player and I am delighted they have chosen to make Austin their new home for themselves and their family."
The Austin Aztex will host a 2015 Launch Party on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at PGi Austin, located at 612 W. 4th Street. The Aztex plan to announce their MLS affiliate, season ticket information, and the 2015 jersey reveal. Fans who wish to attend the free event can RSVP online at www.austinaztex.com.
