Augusta's Gimblett, McGill Suspended by SPHL

November 4, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL) News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - The SPHL today announced it has suspended Augusta players Tyson Gimblett for six games and Aaron McGill for one game for separate incidents during the RiverHawks' game at Huntsville last night.

At the 15:47 mark of the second period, Augusta's Tyson Gimblett was assessed a major penalty for elbowing. "In reviewing the game video, Mr. Gimblett was initially in pursuit of the Huntsville puck-carrier along the boards," stated SPHL Vice President Doug Price. "However, after the Huntsville player lost the puck, Mr. Gimblett deliberately and forcefully struck his opponent's head with his elbow, driving his head into the glass. Mr. Gimblett raised himself up to deliver the hit squarely to the head, nearly leaving his feet in the process, and made no attempt to deliver a legal hit." Gimblett will miss Augusta's games against Huntsville on November 4, Fayetteville on November 5, Louisiana on November 11 and 12, Knoxville on November 18 and Fayetteville on November 24.

At the 13:12 mark of the third period, Augusta's Aaron McGill was assessed a minor penalty for boarding. "As Mr. McGill and the Huntsville player approached the boards, Mr. McGill pushed the Huntsville player from behind, causing him to lose balance and hit the glass head-first," stated Price. "While no injury resulted, Mr. McGill's actions were reckless as his opponent was in a vulnerable position and unable to protect himself from the impact against the glass."

McGill will miss Augusta's game against Huntsville on November 4.
