
Augusta Tops Surge 5-2

The Mississippi Surge dropped a 5-2 decision to the Augusta RiverHawks Friday night, in Augusta.
The Surge broke on top in the first period, as Chris Campanale, signed by by the Surge, just the day before, scored against his former team, to make it 1-0. Augusta got the equalizer in the second period when Surge pest Aaron McGill tied the game at 1-1. The RiverHawks took the lead when Dustin Cloutier scored with only 1:28 left in the second period.
Rob Campbell's goal for the Surge at 7:55 of the third period tied the game at 2-2. Adam Stuart picked up his second assist of the night, giving him eight points in the last four Surge games, with three goals and five assists. But the RiverHawks were able to control the final part of the game. Augusta, which is now 6-2-1 on home ice, got two third period goals from Chris Doyle, a minute and 16 seconds apart, and then an empty net goal from Matt Auffery to salt away the win.
The Surge plays at Columbus Saturday night at 6:30, trying to break out of a three game losing streak.
