Augusta GreenJackets News Release
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets (7-13) were shutout victims of the Fredericksburg Nationals (15-6) in Sunday's finale as the Fred Nats took the final game of the series by a score of 4-0.
After a scoreless first two innings, the Nationals took the lead in the top of the third on an RBI double by Junior Martina to make it 1-0 Fredericksburg.
They would add to their lead with two runs in the top of the fifth inning following another RBI knock by Junior Martina. J.T. Arruda came up a few batters later and made it a 3-0 game on a sacrifice fly. Juan Mateo limited the damage to just two runs on a timely double-play ball that ended the inning.
In the sixth, the Fred Nats would strike again with another run produced off the bat of Junior Martina on a sacrifice fly to give him three RBIs for the game and his team a 4-0 lead.
The GreenJackets had a difficult time getting any rally started on Sunday night as they were held to just five baserunners through the first eight innings of the game on three hits and two walks with only one of the baserunners reaching scoring position.
Augusta entered the ninth still trailing 4-0 but put together a strong threat after a leadoff double by Geraldo Quintero, followed by a pair of walks that loaded the bases with two out. Victor De Hoyos came up as the tying run but a sharp liner hit to center was caught on a diving effort by Christopher De La Cruz to end the game with the Nationals completing the 4-0 shutout.
Pablo Aldonis (1-0) earned the win in his first Single-A start for the Fred Nats with Rainiery Rodriguez (1-1) taking his first loss of 2022 for the GreenJackets.
Kadon Morton and Geraldo Quintero each finished with multiple hits in the game as both of them had a single and double in the defeat.
The GreenJackets will now enjoy a four-day All-Star Break and return to action on Friday night in Columbia when they face the Fireflies for the start of a three-game series. First pitch of the series opener comes from Segra Stadium at 7:05 pm on Friday.
