Augusta Colts News Release
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Jimmy Young will leave the coaching to Bubba Diggs, but the Augusta Spartans owners is confident that Augusta will blow away Columbus Saturday night ... as far as attendance goes.
Young's confident that the James Brown Arena crowd for Saturday's World Indoor Football League home opener for the Spartans against Columbus will make that of the Lions' home owner (2,467) seem pale by comparison.
"The place is going to be rocking," Young said. "Wouldn't surprise me at all if there's 5,000 people in the stands. We've been out in the community and the word's out. We're ready for some football."
The Spartans drew 5,215 for their 2006 regular season finale in another indoor football league - pretty good for a team that had been eliminated from the playoffs.
Pre-game activities include a tribute to the late, great James Brown - an Augusta native, an appearance by the University of Georgia's competitive cheer team and the debut of the Spartans' youth indoor football league.
Young is also confident of his team's chances in the WIFL's first backyard battle of its two Georgia teams. The Lions (2-0) are the only undefeated team in the league.
"I was on the phone with [Columbus owner] Skip Seda today and told him he only had two more days to enjoy being undefeated," Young said. "It's going to be a great game."
Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the James Brown Arena box office or www.ticketmaster.com. WIFLInternetwork coverage begins at 7:15 on the team's respective web sites and on www.wifl.us and www.wifl.ezstream.com
