Augusta Colts News Release

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Even though conditions were chilled outside, Augusta Spartans head coach Bubba Diggs preferred the practice field to his heated office space inside as the World Indoor Football League team opened training camp Monday night.

"It feels good to be out here,'' Diggs said after the brisk workout. "I'm excited with what I saw today ... a lot of quickness and moving to the ball."

Highlights of the first day of practice included:

* Returning lineman Justin Crank, who is attempting to move from offensive line to linebacker. "He's lost a bunch of weight and wants to play the position, Diggs said . He's a guy who was a high school heavyweight wrestling champion, so he knows what it takes to get the job done."

* Newcomer Matt Tripp. "He moves real well," Diggs said."He did a good job today." The Spartans will have their first practice in full pads Wednesday in preparation for the Feb. 11 WIFL debut game at the Daytona Beach Thunder.
