SEA DOGS DROP ANOTHER - The Portland Sea Dogs dropped their third straight game to the Erie SeaWolves, 3-1 on Thursday night. The first run of the game came around to score for the SeaWolves in the top of the fifth inning against Sea Dogs reliever Kyle Hart. With two outs, Andrew Navigato blasted a solo homer to left. It was his 12th of the year and gave Erie a 1-0 lead. Erie jumped right back in the scoring column in the top of the sixth with Hart still on the mound. Quincy Nieporte led off the inning with a solo home run to left field. It was his 23rd of the season and increased the SeaWolves lead to 2-0. The scoring resumed in the top of the ninth inning. This time it was a leadoff homer by Dane Myers, adding to Erie's lead, 3-0. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Scott battled back with a leadoff long ball of his own, scoring the only run in the Sea Dogs 3-1 loss to the SeaWolves.

WARD WORKS SCORELESS DEBUT - In his first Double-A game since 2021, Thaddeus Ward worked through 3.2 scoreless innings, walking five and striking out two in a no-decision in his 2022 Sea Dogs debut. Ward made two starts for Portland last year and allowed five runs on 11 hits through 8.0 innings.

DEARDEN ON A STREAK - Tyler Dearden is currently riding a ten-game on base streak. In his 10 games, he is hitting .353 with seven runs and three doubles. He also blasted two homers last week in Hartford and has driven home five runs. During the streak, Dearden has drawn six walks and struck out 10.

SPEAKING OF STREAKS - Since his promotion to Double-A, Michael Gettys has not allowed a run in his five outings for the Sea Dogs. In his first five games, he has tossed 5.2 innings allowing just three hits while walking two. Gettys is holding opposing hitters to a .176 batting average.

FIVE-IN-A-ROW - With another loss last night, the Sea Dogs have now lost five-straight, their longest losing streak since June. Between June 7th and 14th, Portland lost seven straight games, their longest losing streak of the season.

FORMER SEA DOGS COMBINE FOR FIRST NO-HITTER IN WORCESTER HISTORY - The Worcester Red Sox delivered the first no-hitter for a Red Sox Triple-A affiliate since 2003 and the first for the WooSox in Polar Park history, a combined hitless effort in a 12-0 win against the Durham Bulls last night. Michael Wacha began with night with 4.2 hitless frames, A.J. Politi tossed the next 2.1 innings and Chase Shugart had the eighth and ninth to cap off the no-no. The final out came on a diving grab in left by Devlin Granberg, who entered in the fourth. Politi was 0-1 with a 2.03 ERA with the Sea Dogs this season and currently is 3-0 with a 3.44 ERA with the WooSox. Shugart was promoted by Triple-A on July 3rd and has a 3.95 ERA in eight games with Worcester.

THIS DATE IN SEA DOGS HISTORY - August 5, 2012 - After being traded at the July 31st deadline for former Sea Dogs Lars Anderson, knuckleballer Steven Wright makes his lone Sea Dogs appearance, going six innings on 5 hits and one run to earn the win. Wright was traded by Cleveland with the Akron Aeros in town on July 31st. Andrew Bailey tossed one inning in a MLB Rehab appearance.

PITCHING MATCHUP - RHP Brian Van Belle will take the mound tonight for the Sea Dogs. He last pitched July 30th at Hartford and tossed 5.1 innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out nine. Van Belle did not issue a walk. ‚¬Å
