Atlético Ottawa returned to Canadian Premier League action on Saturday as they travelled to Hamilton, to take on Forge FC for the first time of the season. Off the back of a fiercely contested cup tie at TD Place, Atleti were seeking their first win against the two-time CPL champions. Their efforts were partially rewarded, and Ottawa returns home with a point in their pockets after an exciting 1-1 draw at Tim Hortons Field.

KEY MOMENTS

Atlético Ottawa finally cracked the goals-scored column against Forge FC, netting the first goal against the Ontario rival in club history (six matches played between the two sides before today's).

Not only a highlight for the record books, the goal, built from the back after a long ball from Espejo reached Haworth on the right-wing, who set up Tabla on the top of the 18-yard box. Tabla, covered by two defenders, split the defence with a beautifully weighted tap for Ollie Basset who narrowingly found the inside of the far post to earn Ottawa's opening goal in the 17' minute.

With his goal, Ollie Basset was one of many bright performances on Saturday.

Zach Verhoven and Maxim Tissot were very disruptive on the left side, testing Forge FC and breaking through the final third on numerous occasions.

GK Nathan Ingham and the defensive shape of the Atléti were seriously put to the test throughout the 90 minutes. Forge FC held a dramatic advantage in possession (67%), shots (16) and corners (15), but Ottawa did not let them capitalize outside of the one goal conceded.

It was the first match in their alternate kit for Atlético Ottawa; the blue, teal and white uniform was inspired by the official colours of the City of Ottawa.

Atlético Ottawa continue their road trip next Sunday, May 22nd when they travel to Edmonton to face the Eddies (KO 4PM, live on OneSoccer).
