Player Signings: INF Riley Mahan of the Wild Health Genomes had his contract purchased by the San Francisco Giants... C Jose Briceno of Lexington has been acquired by Kansas City... The Red Sox purchased the contract of Long Island RHP Brett Kennedy.
Happy Birthday To Us: The Atlantic League celebrated its 24th birthday on Friday, May 20... The league debuted on May 20, 1998 when the Somerset Patriots defeated the Atlantic City Surf 8-5 at The Sandcastle in Atlantic City.
Player/Pitcher of the First Half-Week: Angel Aguilar (SI) hit .571 in four contests with three multiple hit games vs. LI... He was 8-for-14 with a double, triple and two RBI... Luis Castro (GAS) hit two home runs and led the ALPB with a 1.250 slugging percentage and a 1.750 OPS... He was 3-for-8 with a double and two HR... Aguilar was tied with Jack Reinheimer (GAS) with eight hits apiece... SMD's Mat Latos and LI's Tyler Webb each had a pair of saves... Lancaster's Brent Teller fanned eight in five innings of work in a start at LAN 5/17.
Player/Pitcher of the Second Half-Week: York's Nellie Rodriguez was 6-for-10 vs. LEX over the weekend with two homers and 4 RBI... LAN's Colton Shaver had three homers and seven RBI vs. the Wild Health Genomes... York's Jorge Martinez went seven innings and struck out a league season-high 11 while yielding just four hits without a walk in a 2-1 win over LEX on 5/20...HP's Adam Choplick picked up a pair of wins in relief vs. Staten Island... GAS's Jesus Balaguer earned a save on back-to-back nights vs. Charleston, 5/21 & 22.
Streaking: LAN's LaDarious Clark and SMD's David Harris are riding the league's longest hitting streaks at 15 games apiece... GAS has homered in six straight games... CWV has only received four walks over the last four games... SMD has at least one double in 11 straight games.
Walk-Offs: High Point won three straight from SI over the weekend, all on walk-offs... Ben Aklinski broke a 2-2 tie on 5/20 with an RBI single... The Rockers won on a two-run error on 5/21 and Aklinski smacked a 2-run homer for a 4-3 win on 5/22... SMD walked-off LI on 5/21 when Zach Collier scored on an 11th inning wild pitch.
Accomplishments: The Wild Health Genomes made history on 5/17 when Alexis "Scrappy" Hopkins coached first and Lindsay Gardner coached third during KY's game with CWV. It marked the first time two females had served as base coaches in league history... York's Jim Fuller recorded his 33rd career save for the Revs, moving into a tie for the second-most in team history... LAN set a club record with 10 doubles in a 16-10 win over KY on 5/20... GAS drew a record crowd of 2,862 vs. CWV on 5/20 and then topped it on 5/21 with a crowd of 3,018.
Long At-Bats: Trace Loehr of LAN faced 11 pitches from YRK's Adrian Almeida before grounding out on 5/19.
Good Nights: Anfernee Seymour of CWV had four hits against KY on 5/17... L.J. Mazzilli drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning for LI's lone run in a 1-0 win over SI on 5/17... LEX hit four homers in an 8-4 win at HP on 5/17... LAN leadoff hitter B.J. Boyd went three-for-four in his Atlantic League debut to lead the Barnstormers to a 6-3 win over York on 5/18.
League Leaders: HP moved into first place in the South for the first time since April 22... The Rockers have won five straight and lead GAS by a half-game... LI's Johnni Turbo leads the league in batting average at .394 since Riley Mahan's contract was purchased by the Giants... LEX's Courtney Hawkins continues to lead the league with 12 home runs and 33 RBI after going 8-for-24 (.333) on the week with four HR and seven RBI... LAN's Kelly Dugan went 11-for-27 (.407) on the week with three HR and 9 RBI... LAN's .308 team batting average last week just outpaced CWV's .307 while YRK had a league-best 3.67 ERA in its last six games... GAS's Deck McGuire became the first pitcher to reach five wins this season with a 6-4 victory over Charleston 5/21.
Team Efforts: Charleston banged out 24 hits in a 16-2 win over Kentucky on 5/17... It marked the most hits by an ALPB team this season, topping the previous high of 21 by Lancaster vs. York (4/29) and So. Maryland at Lexington (4/23) . . . High Point erased a 5-0 deficit in defeating Lexington 11-6 on 5/18 while on the same night, Long Island came from six runs down to beat the FerryHawks 10-9... The Wild Health Genomes walked-off Charleston in 11 innings on Anderson Miller's RBI singe on 5/19...
Anomalies: Southern Maryland has absorbed 34 HBP this season with York the next closest at 23... Gastonia's 61 stolen bases are 26 more than second-place Southern Maryland at 35... High Point's Jheyson Manzueta had a six-pitch fifth inning vs. Staten Island on 5/20... He recorded a fly out on two pitches then another fly out, a single, a hit by pitch and a ground out, all on one pitch... Lexington beat York 4-1 on 5/22 despite the Legends having just four hits though two were home runs.
Big Homers: High Point's Ben Aklinski hit an inside the park three-run homer vs. Lexington on 5/18... Lancaster's Kelly Dugan clubbed a pair of homers in a matinee win vs York on 5/19... Colton Shaver hit two home runs as part of a four-hit night in a 16-10 win over Kentucky on 5/20... He also tied the league season-high with 11 total bases... Gastonia's Zach Jarrett hit a pair of bombs vs. Charleston in 5/20... Gastonia's Luis Castro belted a pair of homers vs. So. Maryland 5/19... York's Nellie Rodriguez hit two vs. Lexington on 5/21... Long Island's Deibinson Romero hit a pair of HR vs. SMD on 5/22... Phillip Ervin of Lexington hit two homers at High Point 5/17... Josh Skole also hit a pair vs. SMD on 5/18... Grand Slams: Nick Longhi of Charleston hit a grand slam in a 16-2 win over Kentucky on 5/17/2022 and Josue Herrerra hit one in York's win over Lexington on 5/21.
