 Jackson Generals News Release
PENSACOLA, FLA. - Whatever magic Jackson Generals pitchers have harnessed in the team's series at Pensacola, its impact can hardly be understated. Backed by a ten-strikeout effort from right-hander RYAN ATKINSON, the Generals pinned the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in a 6-0 victory on Sunday to win their fourth straight game. Jackson's victory keeps them in second place in the Southern League's North Division, just 2.5 games behind Chattanooga.
Following consecutive starts of fewer than five innings, Atkinson reached back and brought out his first 10-K gem since 2017, dealing a season-best six innings while allowing only five hits and one walk. With three innings left, the Generals turned to two more right-handers, SAM LEWIS and BUD JETER, who dealt the final three innings with four strikeouts and only one hit allowed. The Generals' pitching staff lowered their ERA against Pensacola to 1.00 through four games.
Jackson got their runs where they needed, taking a pair in the first inning off Pensacola starter Vladimir Gutierrez (1-6, 6.08 ERA) with a RUDY FLORES home run. Flores and JAMIE WESTBROOK combined to go 4-for-9 with three runs scored, collecting the Generals' only two extra-base hits. DANIEL ROBERTSON, JUNIEL QUERECUTO, KEVIN MEDRANO, and JASON MOROZOWSKI also drove in runs for the Generals, which recorded its fourth shutout of the season.
