Pulaski River Turtles News Release
PULASKI, Virginia - After a high-scoring game one, Monday's game between the Pulaski Yankees (20-22) and Greeneville Astros (25-20) was a one-sided matchup as Greeneville won 3-0.
The evening was a quiet one in southwest Virginia. Greeneville got things started on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning. First baseman Troy Seiber drew a walk to reach base before he was driven home by DH Reiny Beltre on a single. Beltre was tagged out trying to extend his hit into a double to end the inning.
In the fifth inning, Greeneville scored another run when Beltre crossed the plate on an RBI fielder's choice by second baseman Stijn Van Der Meer.
Greeneville struck again in the top of the seventh when shortstop Jonathan Araus was hit by a pitch to start the inning. He later scored on an error by Pulaski third baseman Dermis Garcia to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Astros.
Greeneville starter Jorge Alcala (1-0) picked up the win for the Astros while throwing five innings, giving up no runs, and striking out three. For Pulaski, starter Juan Jimenez (2-3) got the loss while pitching five innings, giving up two runs, and striking out three batters.
The loss was Pulaski's first in their last six games. Things were starting to look up for the Yankees, who had been at the bottom of the Appalachian League East recently. The Yankees had won five in a row coming into Monday night's matchup. They will finish the series against Greeneville on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
