Greeneville Astros News Release
Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros (7-9) had taken three straight games from the Kingsport Mets (7-9) heading into Saturday's match-up at Pioneer Park. This time, however, the Mets came out on top with a 4-2 victory.
After being held to just one run the night before, the Mets got off to a fast start. With two outs in the first inning, the Mets reeled off three straight hits. The last of which resulted in a Zach Mathieu RBI single. Then, after a walk to load the bases, Miguel Becerra had a two-run double to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.
The Astros, who were unable to get anything going in the first inning, managed to cut into the Mets lead in the second. With two outs and Connor Goedert on third, Ramon Laureano cranked out his first professional home run to make the score 3-2. It was all part of a three-for-four night at the plate for the 2014 16th round draft selection.
The next six innings went scoreless. Then, as the game headed into the ninth inning, the Mets got an insurance run when Branden Kaupe scored on a wild pitch.
With the Astros down to their final three outs, Mets reliever Martires Arias closed the game and earned his first save. In total, he gave up two hits over four scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
The winning pitcher for the Mets was starter Yoryi Nuez. He pitched five innings and gave up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts.
The Astros will host the Bristol Pirates for a single game on Sunday at 6:00pm at Pioneer Park before heading to Bristol on Monday and Tuesday. The Astros will be wearing special Hawaiian shirt jerseys on the field as part of their Hawaiian Shirt Sundays promotion.
