June 18, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Answer: Mark (and others): Thanks for the emails and questions about this. We are aware that the NBDL Fort Worth team folded. The Texas Tycoons have the market rights to Fort Worth for the ABA. Because the NBDL was there, they did not want to add a second team. Perhaps Texas will re-consider and bring the excitement of ABA professional basketball at affordable prices there. I will talk with Charles Key about it.

Let me add that it is not a good thing for a team to fold. The big losers are the fans who get a chance to see quality professional basketball at affordable prices. As I have said before, competition is the heart and soul of the free enterprise system. Retailers compete, restaurants compete, airlines compete, banks compete, all businesses compete - including professional basketball leagues. When you have good clean competition, the big winners are the customers (fans) who get better quality, better value. We are sorry that the fans of Fort Worth lost their team. Hopefully we will be able to replace it in the not-too-distant future. For now, if you want to see great professional basketball at affordable prices, please check out the Texas Tycoons when they begin play in November. You will really enjoy it. If you have a question, please email me at conniejoenewman@aol.com or visit www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
