Ask the CEO

Question from Warren B, Los Angeles. (Comment, question): "Mr. Newman. Thank you for answering that question Friday about why the other leagues bash the ABA. Well done. In your answer, you said that the other leagues were "recruiting ABA teams to their leagues." My question is, "Do they actually recruit your teams?"
Answer: Warren. You're welcome. Thanks for the comment. And yes, the other leagues do actively recruit ABA teams instead of finding their own teams. They call our teams, they email our teams, they make personal visits to our teams. They say negative things about the ABA, and now, one league is even sending altered, forged emails - anything they can do to discredit the ABA. And unfortunately, they have been successful in a few cases. But there's a reason that at the end of 100 years of combined operations, they have about 25 teams and the ABA has 60 plus in the last three years. I find their methods deplorable and totally lacking in ethics. I know of no other industries, no other professional sports where this kind of behavior exists. It is shameful behavior. Are these tough sounding words? Absolutely. Do I think the other leagues need to do some introspection as to their methods? Absolutely. The words SPORTSMANSHIP should exist both on and off the court. If you have a question, email joenewman@abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
