Asheville Pulls out Fourth Quarter Victory

Asheville, N.C., March 8, 2003 – The Asheville Altitude kept their playoff hopes alive Saturday night, as they pulled off a fourth quarter comeback to defeat the Greenville Groove, 94-98, at the Asheville Civic Center.

Entering tonight's game, the Altitude exhibited a 1-23 record when trailing with five minutes remaining. Tonight Asheville seized the rare win following a 10-0 run in the final two minutes of the game.

Asheville finished the night with four players scoring more than 15 points. Jeff Trepagnier led the way for Asheville by pouring in 21 points and seven rebounds, while his former college teammate Gary Williams added 18 points.

Altitude big men Brandon Kurtz and Lee Scruggs both recorded double doubles on the night. Kurtz knocked down 18 points and 10 rebounds while Scruggs poured in 15 points in addition to 10 rebounds.

"They (Greenville) shot the ball really well from the field tonight," explains Altitude head coach Joey Meyer. "We were real fortunate to pick up this win."

Greenville shot an impressive fifty-percent from the field but could not hold on to their fourth quarter lead. Billy Thomas, led six Greenville players in double-digit outings, and finished with a season-high 26 points. Donald Hand added 13 points, while Tory Walker and Greg Jones added 12 and 11 points respectively.

Greenville falls to 19-24 and are scheduled to take on the Roanoke Dazzle on Wednesday, March 12th at the Roanoke Civic Center.

Asheville improves to 21-24 overall and return to action Tuesday March 11th, as they take on the Roanoke Dazzle at the Asheville Civic Center. The game is set to tip-off at 7:15 p.m.
