ASHEVILLE, N.C., March 21, 2002- John Coker recorded his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and pulling down 12 rebounds to lead the Asheville Altitude to a 98-71 victory over the Roanoke Dazzle in NBDL action Thursday night.

With the win, Asheville (26-29) records its fifth win in a row and fourth straight over Roanoke (18-37). The Altitude won the season series over the Dazzle, taking eight of the 10 meetings.

"I thought we came out with a lot of intensity," said Altitude Head Coach Joey Meyer. "I'm not surprised that we were able to string together five wins because this team always seems to come together when faced with adversity." Earlier in the day, Asheville lost guards Jimmy King and Stais Boseman for repeated violations of league policy.

In addition to Coker, Asheville also got scoring contributions from Anthony Blakes (19 points), George Reese (18 points), Paul Grant (17 points) and Lee Scruggs (14 points). Scruggs also grabbed 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Scoonie Penn chipped in with six points to go along with his game high 11 assists.

"It was nice to get a win in our final home game," said Altitude center John Coker. "Our fans really got us going tonight and for me, I was able to feed off their energy to help this team get off to a fast start.

Asheville out scored Roanoke 20-10 in the first quarter and 29-19 in the second quarter to take a 49-29 lead into halftime.

"Asheville jumped out on us early and never looked back," said Roanoke Head Coach Kent Davison. "Over the past few games we've had scoring droughts that have really dug us into some really big holes and we haven't been able to climb out of them."

Asheville led 68-44 at the end of the third period and by 31 points before the 2:00 mark of the fourth quarter. The lead swelled following a 25-18 run, sparked by Blakes, who scored 14 of his 19 points in the period.

Roanoke was led in scoring by Martin Lewis (16 points) and Anthony Pelle's (14 points).

Asheville plays its final game of the season, when they travel to Greenville to take on the Groove at 7:00 PM. Roanoke closes out its inaugural season with the N. Charleston Lowgators at 7:30 PM.
