A's Keep Rolling with Ninth Straight Win; 5-1 Over Cape Cod
January 28, 2011 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Brooklyn Aviators News Release
Brooklyn, NY - Casey Mignone scored two goals, and Andrew Scampoli chipped in with three points to help New York skate past the Cape Cod Barons 5-1 in Federal Hockey League action.
With the win, the A's extend their winning streak to nine consecutive games, and also gain their 10th straight victory on home ice.
The opening frame was scoreless, but it saw New York throw 15 shots towards Barons' net minder Chris Testa. However, the A's could not get one past their former teammate who stopped all the pucks sent his way. New York and Cape Cod had their chances though to net a goal, but both clubs failed to convert on the man advantage.
This is the first time since January 6th that the Aviators were held without a goal in the first period on home ice, which came against the Danbury Whalers.
Cape Cod would open the scoring in the second period, after Anthony Cosmano deposited his seventh of the season at the 1:57 mark. Cosmano stuffed it past A's goaltender Kevin Druce far side to give the Barons the 1-0 lead. The A's stormed back though, with three straight goals started by Mignone at the 7:30 mark. Mignone backhanded Scampoli's pass short side under the pad of Testa for his 11th of the year to tie the game at one.
New York defenseman Jarrett Rush collected his first marker of the season just 1:45 later, as his shot from the point fluttered over the Baron goalie to give the A's the 2-1 margin. Scampoli then capped off the period with a power play tally of his own, jamming home the loose puck in the crease with 1:39 remaining to push New York into the second intermission up 3-1.
The Aviators tacked on two more goals in the final frame, and skated to their 20th win of the season.
Druce stopped 22 of 23 shots to pick up his 16th victory of the year, while Testa is nabbed with his seventh loss despite stopping 33 shots.
The Barons fall to 10-11-3 on the year.
The Aviators finish their seven game homestand tomorrow night, as the club welcomes in the Rome Frenzy to the Aviator Sports and Event Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM with great tickets still available by calling 718-758-7580, or by logging onto www.newyorkaviators.com. Catch all the action live on the Aviators' radio network starting with the pregame show at 7:15PM with broadcaster Carmine Vetrano.
