Armstrong Earns Storm's First MISL Rookie of the Year Award

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL - The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that Chicago Storm rookie forward Stephen Armstrong is the winner of the 2007 MISL Rookie of the Year Award. Armstrong becomes the first player in team history to win the award. "I'm proud to have won the award. I came into indoor not familiar with the sport but after a few weeks I've learned to love the toughness and the speed of the game," said Armstrong. "I'm proud to accept the award but I do so not only for myself but on behalf of the whole team. Without them I wouldn't have been successful." Armstrong finished the season tops among all rookies with 32 goals and 76 points. Armstrong also led the league in power play goals with 13 and tied teammate Mariano Bollella for first in the league for game winning goals with 12. Storm head coach Steve Morris spoke about Armstrong's contributions to the team. "I think he's had an exceptional first year in the MISL. From the beginning of the season of until now he's just become more comfortable with indoor game and I think he's not only the rookie of the year but he's turned into one of the elite players in this league." A native of Birkenhead England, Stephen graduated from Butler University where he finished as the Bulldog's third all-time leading scorer (43 goals, 102 points). Armstrong played professionally for premier Swedish club Vastra Frolundafor, as well as D.C. United, Kansas City Wizards and the Columbus Crew of the MLS. After a knee injury he signed on with the Charleston Battery of the USL First Division before coming to the Storm.
