July 27, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Long Beach Armada News Release

Three nights in a row of great pitching. Blair Field has brought out the best of the pitchers the last three games. Timely hits in the very first inning gave the Armada the early lead and they would not let it go as they won 5-3 to take the series against the Vipers and await the Edmonton Cracker Cats.

The very first inning saw all the offense for Long Beach. 2B Cleatus Davidson started with a lead off HR over the left field wall into the street behind Blair Field. His first HR of the season. CF Steve Moss followed with his first double. RF Chris Klemm doubled in Moss. 1B Norm Hutchins singled, then 3B Brett Flowers drove in Klemm with a single. Hutchins and LF Dan Trumble would both steal home and second respectively after C David Ramirez struck out. RF Julian Williams singled in Trumble to finish off the scoring. All nine batters appeared in the first inning.

Thats all starter Dusty Gober (4-5) would need as he pitched a beauty going 7 innings giving 3 runs on 4 hits, walking 1 and striking out 3. Sean Buller pitched a scoreless eighth giving up 1 hit. Nick Cavanagh ended the night the leader in saves with his 11th on the season, giving up 1 hit and striking out 1.

The Vipers would score one in the third thanks to sac fly by RF Darryl Brinkley scoring CF Jorge Tang. They would add two more in the fourth thanks to DH Felix Jose doubling in LF Drew Miller after his double. Jose would later score on a throwing error by Flowers to first base. Vipers starter Joe Sergent (2-1) struggled early, but gave up no more runs after the first going 6 innings giving up 5 runs on 8 hits, striking out 3. Reggie Rivard and PJ Bevis combined to go 2 innings giving up 1 hit and striking out 3.

Probable starters tomorrow for Edmonton TBA and for Long Beach Jonathan Figueroa (3-0). Game time is 7:05pm at Blair Field.
