Long Beach Armada News Release

We got another pitcher's duel tonight at Blair Field. Calgary was shut down for only a run after scoring six the previous night. The Armada end their five game losing streak and Calgary's seven game winning streak winning 3-1.

The Armada bats awoke in the fourth and sixth innings tonight as RF Chris Klemm drove in a run in each of those innings. Klemm drove a solo HR off the right field scoreboard in the fourth. He drove in CF Steve Moss in the sixth inning. Klemm would finish 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Moss would finish 1 for 4 driving in a run and scoring a run.

Armada starter Ryan Claypool (5-5) pitched a gem going 7 innings giving up 1 run on 6 hits, walking 4 and striking out 4. Garrett Murdy pitched a scoreless eighth giving up 1 hit and striking out 1. Nick Cavanagh got his 10th save pitching a scoreless ninth.

The Vipers only run came in the fifth when 3B Travis Drader scored on Claypool's wild pitch. Drader finished 1 for 3 with a run scored. CF Colin Moro went 2 for 4. Eight runners were left on base for Calgary, five for Long Beach. Vipers starter Nathan Melek (4-3) got the loss pitching 5 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 2.
