Long Beach Armada News Release

After a quick bus ride into Yuma, the Armada looked to continue their winning ways at Desert Sun Stadium. The Scorpions had other ideas as they shutout the Fleet giving Yuma their first shutout of the season as they won 9-0.

Armada starter Ryan Claypool (5-6) had a rough outing in Game 1. Claypool pitched 5 innings giving up 8 runs, 4 earned on 10 hits, walking 3 and striking out 3. Justin Segal came on in relief giving up one run in the sixth inning. Sean Buller and newly acquired right hander Wayne Foltin each went one inning giving up no runs.

CF Steve Moss got half of the Armada hits. Moss went 2 for 4 with a double. 2B Julian Williams went 1 for 4 with a triple. SS Michael Glomb went 1 for 3. Only four hits for the Armada in the first game. Rest assured the Fleet don't have games like this back-to-back.

Yuma starter Jorge Perez (6-2) went the distance giving up 4 hits, no runs, walking 1 and striking out 8. Perez was dealing from start to finish. 3B Henry Calderon went 3 for 4 with a double, 3 RBI and two runs scored. LF Rich Janeway went 2 for 4 with two triples and 2 RBI. Five runs scored in the second, three in the fourth and one in the sixth for Yuma.

Probable starters tomorrow for Long Beach Dusty Gober (4-5) and for Yuma TBA. Game time is at 7:05pm.
