
Armada FC to Play Winner of Richmond Kickers/Virginia Beach City FC on May 27 in U.S. Open Cup

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 14, 2015) - The Armada FC, Jacksonville's new professional North American Soccer League team, will officially enter the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 27 when they take on the winner of the Richmond Kickers/Virginia Beach City FC second-round matchup.
USL side Richmond Kickers faces off against National Premier Soccer League club Virginia Beach City FC at City Stadium in Richmond, Va., on Wednesday, May 20, to decide who will earn the right to host the Armada FC.
May 27 will mark the inaugural U.S. Open Cup match for the Armada FC. The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest single-elimination cup competition in domestic soccer, dating back to 1914. The Armada FC enters the third round of competition along with nine NASL clubs and the 21 winners of second round matches.
In its 102nd edition, this year's U.S. Open Cup includes 91 teams, the largest field to compete in the modern era (1995-present). This year also marks the fourth consecutive competition in which all U.S.-based Division I, II and III professional teams will participate.
