JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Armada FC announced the signing of forward Alex Dixon on Wednesday.

Dixon, who hails from Humble, Texas, played three seasons in Major League Soccer with the Houston Dynamo and also trained in the U.S. National Team U-17 residency program. He arrives in Jacksonville after spending 2014 and 2015 with the USL's Rochester Rhinos. In 2015, he helped lead the club to one of the best seasons in USL history.

"We are happy to welcome Alex to the Armada FC family," said Tony Meola, Armada FC head coach and technical director. "This signing brings our roster some depth in the wide areas of the field and a player who has a winning mentality."

Rochester finished with just one loss en route to a regular season title and steamrolled through the playoffs to capture the USL Championship. Dixon capped his regular season with three goals, including two game-winners, on 26 shots in 15 appearances and 1,524 minutes of action. He started all three of Rochester's playoff contests.

Praised as a skillful attacker, Dixon signed with Houston as a Homegrown Player in 2011, where he made 18 appearances, including three U.S. Open Cup and two CONCACAF Champions League stints, in three seasons. He scored two goals in 1,390 minutes of action and also saw time with the Dynamo reserve team.

After a successful one-month loan to the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2013 where he appeared in three games and had a game-winning goal, he signed with Rochester in 2014.

Prior to signing professionally, Dixon spent 2008-10 at the University of North Carolina, where he helped the Tar Heels reach the NCAA College Cup in each of his three seasons and was a teammate of Armada defender Jordan Gafa in 2009 and 2010.

The Armada FC also announced the release of Colombian midfielder Jaime Castrillón and Argentinian defender Lucas Trejo on Wednesday.

Castrillón, a 32-year-old who played most of last season on the right side, finished with three goals and an assist in 27 NASL starts and 2,225 minutes.

Trejo, 27, played center back and left back last season and logged 2,163 minutes in 25 NASL starts. He tallied one assist and also had a start in the Armada's U.S. Open Cup match in May against the Richmond Kickers.

The Armada FC will announce additional signings in the coming days.
